Hello! My name is Myriam, but you can call me by my nickname, which is Mimi. I graduated with my undergraduate Bachelor’s Degree Cum Laude Honors from the American Public University Systems Cybersecurity & Digital Forensics Program in December of 2020. Before attending APUS, I graduated from the City University of New York, with an AAS Undergraduate Degree in Law and Legal Studies and received the honorary Tom Shaw Award as well as the Lincoln Center Award for Academic Excellence. I am currently pursuing my Master’s Degree for Intelligence Studies with a concentration in Cybersecurity. I have a Para-professional, and Cybersecurity background. My areas of expertise include:

    • Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) products (Splunk Enterprise Security)
    • Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) network security tool that continuously monitors a network for malicious activity and takes action to prevent it. IPS is used quickly identify suspicious activity or security violations.
  • Network security control
    • Wired and wireless networks, and how to secure them
  • Operating Systems
    • Expertise of security threats for operating systems for both on computers and mobile devices. A deep familiarity with MacOS, Windows, Linux, as well as their command-line interfaces.
    • Specializes in threats and vulnerabilities associated with mobile operating systems, like iOS and Android.
  • Incident Response
    • Provides quick response when security incidents occur that are critical to minimize damage and loss.
    • Provides effective incident handling that requires familiarity with an organization's incident response plan and provides the skills in digital forensics and malware analysis.
  • Cloud Computing
    • Cloud cybersecurity area of expertise which includes the tools, data, and infrastructure necessary for protecting cloud applications and infrastructure from cyber predators. These cybersecurity skills provide professionals such as myself with the capabilities to prevent attacks, manage and protect your personal sensitive identifiable information, secure applications, and the infrastructure within and organization.
  • Cyber Threat Intelligence
    • Ability to knowledge, Cyber skills and professional experience concerning the incident and assessment of both cyber and physical threats; threat actors intended to assist the mitigation and/or potential Cyberattacks and/or harmful events occurring within Cyberspace.
  • Regulatory 
    • Cybersecurity area of expertise for Governance, Risk, and Compliance. My area of expertise for GRC provides me with the skillset to protect an organization from Cyberattack, data theft, and loss, as well as assisting them to be compliant with industry standards and regulations. I am well versed with the following:
      • General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
      • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA)
      • Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
      • Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)
      • Sarbanes-Oxley and all the US federal laws that helps protect the privacy of Citizens.
I am the former APUS Chapter President of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars Honor Society and the President of the National Society of Leadership and Success. I am also an honor student member of Epsilon Pi Tau, APUS National Society of Leadership & Achievement. I have remained consistently on the Dean’s list for academic excellence. In the few past years, as the APUS Chapter President of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, I inducted over two hundred new members into our universities honor society. In addition, I am an honor student and member of the US Department of Homeland Security’s Order of the Sword and Shield Honor Society. The Order of the Sword and Shield is the first and only academic and professional honor society dedicated exclusively to homeland security, intelligence, emergency management, cyber and information security, and all protective security disciplines. After graduation, I stepped down as the Chapter President (as I was no longer an undergraduate student); and was appointed as the NSCS APUS Chapter Advisor. I was also recently appointed as the APUS University Ambassador. On or about October 1, 2022, I assumed my new Leadership role as the Chapter President for the APUS National Security Policy and Analysis Organization.
